The lower portion where we stayed is a one hour launcha ride out to the Caribbean. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/chickenbone\/14660723474\/\" title=\"DSC_0818 by Chknbone, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5153\/14660723474_4697102a77.jpg\" width=\"334\" height=\"500\" alt=\"DSC_0818\"><\/a><br \/>\nThe river goes through straight up jungla&#8230;the sides go straight up into the jungle canopy. There are numerous rustic villages along the way that are accessible only by launcha.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/chickenbone\/14662574662\/\" title=\"DSC_0811 by Chknbone, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3855\/14662574662_a561b6b7ba.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"334\" alt=\"DSC_0811\"><\/a>?Numerous resorts and floating homes are found along the flatter areas of the river. Some are on posts up above the water. How else you gonna get your motor cycle to town?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/chickenbone\/14682862953\/\" title=\"DSC_0824 by Chknbone, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3898\/14682862953_875a39e208.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"334\" alt=\"DSC_0824\"><\/a><br \/>\nAs you come around the last bend of the jungle you are welcomed by the sights of Livingston, a rough and tumble little frontera town&#8230;from here you can take launchas into Belize, Honduras or back to Guatemala.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/chickenbone\/14476550187\/\" title=\"IMGP0499 by Chknbone, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5583\/14476550187_9bfff5704e.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" alt=\"IMGP0499\"><\/a><br \/>\nWe stayed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.casadelaiguana.com\">at Hostel de La Iguana<\/a> this cool little hostel with a small bar and great happy hour and amazing owners from England and Ireland&#8230;they also can hook you up with all kinds of tours and tickets for the launch a ride to Belize.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/chickenbone\/14682898463\/\" title=\"IMGP0498 by Chknbone, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm6.staticflickr.com\/5512\/14682898463_f5f161b21b.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" alt=\"IMGP0498\"><\/a><br \/>\nThis is a cool little wash center for the locals providing clean water to hand scrub your clothes&#8230;as it was hot as an armpit, I kinda wanted to jump in, but figured that would be frowned upon&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/chickenbone\/14476350698\/\" title=\"DSC_0821 by Chknbone, on Flickr\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3879\/14476350698_d1f397f763.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"334\" alt=\"DSC_0821\"><\/a><br \/>\nThis is the staging area where boats wait to go over the sandbar and up into the river Dulce. A pilot boat will attach a line to the boats halyard which is raised to the top of the mast. The pilot boat pulls his boat to the side to heel the boat so the keel passes over the bar.
