Thar be meat!

Back near the beginning of August we were rafted up with Andante, and Hello World in Effingham Bay in Barkley Sound. In fact, it was our last anchorage together. We had been hanging out and exploring the east coast and top of Vancouver Island with Kevin on Andante all summer. Jason & Christy on Hello World met up with us and all three boats traveled down the west coast together for the month of July.

We were all hanging out on Hello World eating dinner, having a few drinks when Jason and Christy bring out this heavy “going away” gift bag. It had all sorts of good stuff in it.

Good stuff by Hello World standards that is. A 3 plus year old bag of Turkey Jerky, a book they didn’t want anymore, a broken bocce ball set (I was the one that broke it, but that is not really a important) and the best bit, a treasure map to an Italian deli in San Francisco (and some cash to splurge on delicious salami once we found it).

Actual treasure map, people! It’s out of focus you cannot steal mah treasure.

The map and clues were fairly accurate, but they could not recall the name of the deli. So we had to rely on their clues to find the place. We found a deli and got some awesomely delicious hard salami and equally delicious sandwiches and a cannoli. Took that all down to the water front and had a killer lunch.

Look, it’s Tawn at a deli!

The name of the place they were guiding us to is Molinari’s.

We did not go there. We ended up going to some place three blocks down the street.

Turns out Christi’s talent for writing poems and treasure map instructions are awesome, but her ability to judge distance is just as shitty as Jason’s. [Pro tip: If Jason tells you something is X distance away, subtract alot from what he tells you. Then disregard the answer you come up with and measure it your self]

Her instuctions indicated the deli was blocks away from a restaurant called the Stinking Rose, when in fact it was less than a block away. We actually found the right place a few days later when we were hanging out with some friends of our that live in San Francisco.

Either way, thanks for awesome treasure map guys and turns out the salami we got from the wrong place was actually made by the other place anyway. It’s all good!

AC72’s off the port bow!!

We’ve been anchored out in Clipper Cove on Treasure Island for the last 2 or 3 days. Went out for a day sail one of the days, spent a number of days checking out the sights of San Francisco and visiting with friends there and in Oakland.

Yesterday we went for a walk on Treasure Island, which is a now closed down Naval Base. But the city leases bits of it to business and housing. A number of the buisness are Wineries……with tasting rooms!

After walking past 3 or 4 of them, and those being closed for the Labor day weekend, we were just about to give up. When we hear some loud ass Trance music blasting out of a building that was clearly the old naval brig for the base. HUGE curved in fence and all. And on the fence was a big sign proclaiming it to be a winery….with a FREE tasting.

We wandered in.

Took us awhile to find anyone. Finally I find a guy stacking wine barrels. He turns out to the owner and comes out and starts pouring us wine and telling use some awesome stories about the area and the island….and his wine. He had not planned on being open today, but was just there to get some work down…..then we showed up.

Twenty three different wines and two or three hours later we walked out with an awesome bottle of wine and a sweet midday buzz. The owner was hilarious and invited us to his house for drinks the next day if we happened to be in his area.

Today (Monday the 2nd) we left Clipper cove and sailed over to Sausalito. Where we are anchored right now.

On the sail over…the Fly Emrites AC72 came SCREAMING right at us and used us as a turning mark!! It was unbeliveably awesome to see that big ass boat, flying by up on foil…..! UnBEfuckingliveable…

Pics to prove it

No Zoom, it was just that close!!

hehehehehehehe, sooooo fast!!

Now with 100% more video.

Moving On Up!

After our trip down the coast CB and I thought that maybe we could use a little more room for our desired life style and to house all of Sailor Jerry’s Kid’s. We thought we’d start looking for our next yacht at the Med tie dock at the America’s Cup arena….because where else would classy cruisers like our selves find a suitable vessel for all our awesomeness?

We first looked at a 295′ sailing yacht built in Holland…it was very modern and had all the high tech features that our crew would enjoy…but it just didn’t pop.

So we wandered on down the jetty and saw a few smaller yachts that were just too power boaty for our taste…Macgregor’s on steroids. We almost switched to the dark side to appease our need for excessive toys…

This was pretty cool..although a mere 150′. It had two RIB’s, a full size fishing boat ready to deploy off the aft and plenty of space for our friend’s surf boards, kayaks and kite boarding gear…but it only had one landing area for the helicopter…we really were looking for two if we were going to go this route…

Then we came across this beauty…

This was the one…classic beauty and finish for our very eclectic group of friends. She would sail like a dream and provide the comforts we are accustomed to and still make us feel salty upon arrival to exotic destinations. Come join us on our new yacht SJK…the rum is flowing guys.

The Good, the Bad & the Foggy

It was overall an awesome trip….many thanks to Mikey Bamboo for his commraderie, sense of humor and awesome motoring skills:-) The trip was pretty uneventful with only two days of sailing and lots of motoring, sunshine and calm seas…I’ll take it! We caught a Tuna, crossed more bars than we ever thought we would, fixed some bad wiring on the engine and sailed into San Fransisco Bay. I’ll call this trip overly successful. We were welcomed to California with sun and heat and are soaking it up after a cold British Columbian summer….call this summer take two:-) The following are photos taken has we passed under the Golden Gate Bridge.

The fog has Tawn confused. The sign is correct. She is pointing at a boat.

I like bridges!!

Yaaayyyy, Bridges! And San Francisco at last.

And here we all are tied up to the dock in Berkeley California. The whole crew.
