The great storage vs. toys war rages on. (CB)

I love gadgets, absolutely love them. The majority of our hobbies require a good number of gadgets in order to do them properly. I work in the computer industry which is…you guessed it, nothing but gadgets. Hell, I live on a giant floating gadget that is absolutely stuffed with other smaller gadgets. Which brings me to my problem. Where to put all this stuff.

As you can probably guess, storage on a boat is at a premium. And right now we have things under control. Of course by “right now” I mean 2 months ago and by “under control” I of mean, we are storing our new scuba gear in the shower when it’s wet and on the starboard settee (couch to you landlubbers) when it’s dry and we don’t have friends over. If friends are over we pile it on one of the berths.

We rent a small 5×5 storage locker down the road from the marina that is used to store our camping gear, snowboarding stuff, bikes, snowshoes, a remote control sailboat, extra clothes….the list goes on. But the scuba gear is something that we want to keep on the boat, so we can use it on some of our weekend trips.

We could stuff it under the table, but our Spinnaker is taking up that spot. So I have to come up with a solution. I have two places in mind. One spot is to put it in the starboard lazarette in the cockpit. This of course means relocating tools, anchor & chain, line, and all sorts of other stuff to make it fit. The other choice is to put it in an unused storage spot in the port side under the V-berth. The only thing there right now is an extra shroud and a small shovel (no clue why that is there?). There is plenty of space, but I would need to build some racks in there and install a small fan to keep the air moving to prevent everything from getting moldy. This of course will require a few new tools and a new gadget or two to get the job done.

Hmmmm….More gadgets. Plus when I get the project done, we’ll have room to store the new toys tools on the settee.
