The plan was to get up early and sail to Port Ludlow on Sunday morning.
The reality was we got up not so early and realized that the tide would be against us going north and there was no wind at all. So we decided instead to sail south around Bainbridge island and anchor out in Manzanita Bay. We got as far as Eagle Harbor and the wind completely died. So we turned on the motor and continued around. The wind finally picked up again just as we got even with Brownsville Marina on the west side of the island.
It only held out for about an hour and died again, we changed our minds on anchoring in Manzanita Bay and decided instead to go to Poulsbo and anchor out in Liberty Bay. Once there and anchored we saw some friends of ours (Billy & Trish) were anchored out there as well on their boat, so we dinghied over and had a drink with them.
Here is a rough map of our route:
The black line is Sundays route south. The Red line is Monday return trip home.
On Monday, we had a very lazy day of just laying around the boat and reading. Decided to head back to Shilshole around 2pm. Once we got under the bridge, through Agate Passage and out into Port Madison the wind really picked up. We ran into Dan on his boat Blue Monkey II, and we “raced” back to Shilshole in 18 knots of wind on a beam reach. Great sail!!
Here is proof:
This is what I think of Dan on Blue Monkey IIL
